I just got this link from a friend in Michigan.

Wierd how NYCer's need folks from Michigan to remind them we're America's most walkable city.

    lies!! i don't think you can legally walk to staten island :p.

    Well, you can board and then walk back and forth on the ferry a few times until it gets to the Staten Island side.

    I don't think that NYer's (people who live here and actually walk and use public transpo)have forgotten that its a walkable city. However, being able to walk does not mean that its EASY to walk. Not having access to a car narrows the lives of many people including parents with young children, the elderly and the disabled.

    Most of us on this board are lucky as we live fairly close to public transportation. There are people in Brooklyn however that are 7+ blocks from the closest bus and 2-3x as far from the closest subway. Those folks don't necessarily think the walkability is all that great.
