    The Wire

    Dexter

    Arrested Development

Parks and Recreation (it takes them a few episodes to get their footing, so watch several)

    House

    The Office

Fringe (okay, so this one is kind of cheesy but if you like sci-fi, you might love it)

I agree with everything above (Except House - I just can't handle how soap opera-y it's become) with Community, Freaks and Geeks, and Twin Peaks added in there.

    Fringe is awesome.

The first season was uneven, but the last season was awesome.

Do you watch any of the HBO shows?

Wire, Game of Thrones, etc etc

You have to watch the Wire.

Also Deadwood was fantastic if you like period pieces.

I would also suggest Sherlock, the new series from BBC, it streaming on Netflix, REALLY very good.

Spaced is a great series on Hulu if you liked Shaun of the Dead.

House soap opera-y?! I just know tons of dudes (who hardly watch tv) that love that show. Give it a chance, AW. If it's soap opera-y, I think it's the guy version of a soap opera. Or all guys just want to be House.

And yes to Community and Freaks & Geeks.

oh forgot to mention hate hate lawyer and doctor shows :p. american society loves them :p. i hate em lol.

i especially hate lawyer shows. in real too many lawyer politicians and frivolous lawsuits turn that whole profession off for me.

just saw the whole season of game of throne. pretty good but too much nudity :p. they could of done the whole thing more sexy without the nudity.

getting all of the fringe now.

I got directv :p but rarely watch it. mostly watch tv on computer.

also the show is a little gruesome, they could of showing the beheading off screen too :p.

Thrones definitely has excessive violence and sex, but is still a great show.

The amount of sex & nudity was just stupid sometimes.

The fringe feels like Eerie Indiana (x files totally ripe the show off and both has red head side kicks) :p.

Started Firefly last night. Many people claim it's better than BSG.

So far so good. Opening episode is 90 mins.

Come on now, that's like comparing apples and... cylons. Firfefly is a great show, a fun, action-geared comdey. BSG is a great show, though more maudlin and probably a little too self-important. But fantastic writing and acting throughout.

Speaking of which, I'd also recommend the first 3 or 4 seasons of The West Wing; politics aside, it is a wonderful example of extremely talented people coming together to make some gripping telelvision. I'd say the same thing about Homicide: Life On The Street, the best cop show from the 90's, if ever. While gritty and painfully realistic, it is nearly impossible not to watch (at least the first 6 seasons... I think by the 7th most of the best cast members had left). The creators/showrunners of Homicide, David Simon and Tom Fontana, individually went on to do the HBO shows Oz, The Wire, Generation Kill and Treme. That's a hell of a run.

As far as more-recent shows, I've lately gotten into Justified and Sons of Anarchy, both on FX. Both are good fun with good leads, particularly Justified. I enjoy Dennis Leary's Rescue Me as well, but the last few seasons have either become very repetitive or slipped into soap opera nonsense. My favorite new show of the last few years is probably Terriers, also on FX. But sadly it only lasted one season.

I like terriers. its pretty good.

i'm still piss at fox for cancelling so many good shows over the years.

The more I watch Firefly, the more I like it and the more I realize that as you say, it and BSG aren't similar shows at all.

Other than both take place in space.

Oh, forgot! For incredibly stupid, trashy fun, there's always True Blood on HBO... think soft-core Skinemax + 80's slasher gore. Also, going back to the early part of the decade, Alias was lots of fun too, before it went off the rails and I tuned out. Probalby stick to the first three seasons if you're going to.

AW - yeah, Dollhouse wasn't bad either (the second season is far better than the first), and was also killed by Fox.

Boy - they are wildly different shows! Like I said, in the long run, Firefly is probably a more entertaining thing to watch, though I do appreciate BSG taking pains to explore some more meaningful themes/ideas.

Just saw all 3 seasons of fringe, i like the show, but just looking at the ratings can't believe they cancel sarah conor chronicles it had better ratings on fox. yet fringe is still going lol.

3rd season kinda got lame, they should focus on weird cases, i hope they'll finish the device thing soon in a episode or two. lets hope the show doesn't get too religious :p.

Third Season of Fringe was great!

They finally started focusing on the serial plot lines, which are much better than the 1-off episode plots where they save the girl and everyone lives happily ever after.

my theory is why fringe is still on the air is that actress is the niece of the lady that was married to Murdoch.

I like the conspiracy parts of the story arch and different dimensions but they are taking the latter thing stretching it too long.

The one off things are fun to watch :p. and also they should never put the girl and the guy together till the last episode to make things good. other wise ruins all the tension.

weirdest thing is I was having deja vu while watching all 3 seasons lol. I never seen the show before till now. but some how the shows and plots all seem to have been seen by me before. one of my multiverse selves must have seen it.
