i need to get a routine blood test with results sent to my doctor in jersey. i know sometimes you can go to labs (preferable and free) or clinics (where i'd need to co-pay) to get this done... anyone know of any place here in the nabe that can do this?

There is a Lab Corp blood- and urine- testing facility on the second floor above Neergard at Fifth Avenue and Ninth Street. It is not free.

I've used Quest Diagnostics on Pierpont Street in Brooklyn Heights and never had a problem. They get you in and out quickly. They have a number of other locations including one on 13th Street. I've never used those though, so can't speak to them.

You can also get routine bloodwork done at some Duane Reade locations. I've only used one's in the city for that type of service.

Neither was free, although my insurance covered the costs in both instances.

there are lots of labs around, most of them will take either insurance or cash ...but I would call ahead to see if they are open today.

Here's a list of labs that take Empire Insurance - United Healthcare (I link it because it is widely accepted).

Find a lab close to you, call them and ask about their cash rate for the type of test you need done.

...they often require a prescription for some of the tests.

Whynot is right that you might need a script. It shouldn't be hard for you doc to fax that to them but just make sure to call and ask if you need it to save yourself some hassle.

I've used Quest on 13th St btw 6 and 7 ave. Not usually crowded and as decent as a blood place can be.

Quest on 13th street is a good choice.
