Dog Park in Crown Heights

Does anyone know how we can go about getting a dog park in our area? I'm not sure how to begin, contact NY Parks and Rec, the Mayor's office, a petition...I have no idea who to contact or if it is possible, but I have some time to put into this if someone can push me in the right direction.

I LOVE the community garden that the volunteers have transformed from an empty, ugly lot filled with needles & condoms into a beautiful peaceful community space on Franklin Ave. I'd love to have a small space like that for my dog.

I'd also like to have the streets in our neighborhood not filled with dog shit from inconsiderate owners who refuse to pick up after their pets, but hey, one thing at a time.

If anyone has any suggestions/ ideas, PLEASE let me know. I know that Prospect Park allows dogs off leash at certain times, but so many people just aren't able to let their dogs off leash and need a safe, fenced in place to play with other dogs.

A few years back there was a community push to get a part of Mount Prospect made into a dog run, to no avail.

Call our local congress man/woman and see if they can't help. It would be WONDERFUL if we could get something here- you would have a great deal of support from all the CH/PH dog people.

The best way to go about is to contact Bob Marino of NYCDog (New York Council of Dog-Owingin Groups. This group included FIDO in Prospect Park, First Run, Thompkins Square Park, Hillside & many many other dog parks. They have been there & done that & work with Parks & the city. If you have any questions get back to me off-list.
