Ideas for Community Cleanup Organization?

Hi All,

I am interested in organizing a regular clean-up for my block (EP b/t Franklin and Classon), and have some ideas regarding getting started. Before moving forward, I thought it might be best to see if anyone has knowledge of pre-existing groups in the neighborhood (e.g., Friends of the Berm) that I could use as a resource. Any ideas?

Thanks.

start organization that gets to the root of why so many people litter. Cleaning up litter is great but why is it there in the first place. Walk EP after the parks cleaning people go through, then some random walk or ride by passes. You will observe people eating and drinking, later when you return the people are gone but their garbage remains, even when a trash can is within arms distance. Walk behind people that have purchased chicken, wings or traditional more than half the time they discard the bones after consuming the meat while walking. It's a disorder called completely selfish asshole.

I fully agree. Cleaning up is not gonna solve the problem, try educating people instead. I always encourage people to actually use trash cans- in a VERY friendly way (no need to be rude when it comes to education!). Let them know that littering atracks rats, it usually works better than the "We have to keep our nabe clean" line (unfortunately).
