What's going into the former shoe store space? I looked at the building permits and it didn't look like they're adding a kitchen. Another cell phone store?

i don't know this firsthand, but according to the carlton ave block association, it is going to be a restaurant with the potential for outdoor seating. highly doubt a cellphone store would be doing the aesthetic work they appear to be doing at this corner!

Weird, 'cause the building permits didn't say anything about adding a kitchen. Who would want to sit outside on that corner??

Who would want to sit outside on that corner??

People who get a kick out of watching traffic violations and frequent vehicle/pedestrian near misses?

I new there was someone who fit the bill, but couldn't think who exactly. Thanks for filling in the gap Whynot. :)

There used to be a kitchen in there, so it could be anything- the DOB permit might not reveal much.

Personally I'm looking forward to a nice big new restaurant - something other than a grease pit like 5 Guys. I would love a really good, fresh Vietnamese or Thai place.

Speaking of this corner, are there traffic signals going up there? Seems like some kind of signal work is happening based on the location of conduit and orange traffic cones at that corner.

Yes, DOT is installing a signal at the intersection that will be timed with the one at Flatbush and Park. The goal is to create safer conditions for pedestrians, especially in the southern crosswalk on Carlton by the restaurant. There's a stop sign there, but cars just roll through.

Hopefully, the change will also deter dollar vans from taking Carlton Avenue as a short cut. Currently, a number of speed down Carlton and then take a left on to Prospect to get back on to Flatbush, all in an effort to shave off a minute or two.

Hot flash (actually not to hot). Last Tuesday at the Economic Development committee meeting (every 2nd Tuesday 6:30 PM at 720 Classon Ave, The Center for Nursing and Rehab, bet. Park and Prospect) the new owners of the establishment at the corner of Flatbush and Park, actually Carlton and Park, announced they would be opening a restaurant with a beer and wine license in what used to be the shoe repair store. No outside seating (yet). Not clear what the format will be.

Interestingly, these folks also own Burrito Bar on the corner of Prospect Place and Flatbush.

See, it pays to show up!

I'm not sure what "farm to table" means, but I hope it does not mean small portions of organically raised food for lots of money.

I think we have filled the demand for such places, and I want them to succeed.

My advice is to make sure they put their menus on Subaru wagons.
