SOS Crown Heights March Against Violence October 20th

On October 20th, persons concerned about crime and violence in Crown Heights will meet on the North side of Eastern Parkway at Utica Avenue at 6 PM.

SOS is a community based organization that demands an end to the violence that plagues our community, supports victims of violence and their families, and celebrates the positive changes we have made in our community.

Crow Hill neighbors will be gathering at the garden at 5:00 to walk over to the march.

We will be leaving the garden at 5:30, not sure about the sign making since there wasn't a big outcry for it at tonight's meeting...

The SOS organizers state that they hope this year's will be even bigger that last year's.

Last year, it attracted around 150 people. This year they already have 250 registered, and hope for around 400 total.

Heh. And there's the very busy corner at Franklin & Lincoln, just aobut 100 ft from my bedroom window for the last 7-8 years. Its actually improved sognificantly in th elast two or so years as far as regularly of incidents.

And, shockingly, I will miss it so when we leave in about a month.

You could attend the next shooting response!

Of course, we all hope that there won't ever be a need for a shooting response in the future, because people have learned to resolve their conflicts without shooting/stabbing/bludgeoning each other.

Ntfool, I hope the corner of Lincoln and Franklin continues to become more peaceful. If my wish comes true, I promise to view your departure from the area AND its ongoing trend toward non-violence as being merely coincidental.

Missed the march itself but caught the ceremony at the end at Brower Park. Seemed like a good turnout. And the part where they read the date and place of each shooting was very moving.

If it were up to me, I would have had the "date and place part" occur before the gospel singing.

...but just that's a minor critique.

Back on topic, I'd estimate yesterday's turnout at around 225.
