One of the worst intersection for pedestrian: EPW and Utica

Did anyone notice this in the Brooklyn Daily Eagle?

While the DOT is busily redoing Washington and Atlantic to benefit pedestrians and cyclists, look what's going on out at EPW and Utica!

It's only one of the worst because the livery drivers who hang out there don't give a shit about the pedestrians. If they would let people cross when making their turns or, heaven forbid, stop at a red light it wouldn't be so bad. It's really not the design of the intersection that's bad as all of them along EP are basically the same.

The website seems to conclude that if there is an intersection with are a lot of cars and a lot of pedestrians, a lot of cars hit pedestrians.

Step 1. Think of a busy pedestrian-car intersection in NYC.

Step 2. Find it on the map.

    Step 3. Say, "yup, dangerous".

Agree 100% - it is hands down the livery drivers picking people up, honking horns, driving through lights, etc..

Also I think it's better than many since you can't turn off of EP onto Utica.

I was just there last night around 11 or so... didn't seem too bad, though I know it's a shit show during the day. I used to ride livery vans when I lived in Queens... those guys are needlessly reckless. Esp when you consider the fact that fuel is one of their overheads...

The Utica stop on EPW is the third busiest train stop in Brooklyn and a major transit point for buses. Add speeding drivers on EPW and you've got a deadly cocktail.

Having no turns off EPW helps but more traffic calming is called for. What about narrowing the roadway to two lanes and increasing the width of the park?

All of EP needs a retooling now with all the bikes and pedestrian increase.  The fear of camera tickets works for the West side HWY , no?
