Insane Neighbor

I was wondering if someone could give me some advice. I am pretty much at my wits end with calling 311 and getting nowhere with the 77th precinct about this obnoxious neighbor, who lives across the street and starts blasting music in the middle of the night with the window open, while high and shouting out the window.

I have made numerous complaints and it does no good. Last time, I got so frustrated and upset, that I went out and threw a rock at the guy's window. I really don't want to have to go to jail over this, but paying rent here with people who just don't give a crap is driving me nuts.

Pick up some ear plugs at Rite Aid, the jelly kind that can be molded to fit your ears work best for me. Also if one were to commit a crime one shouldn't document it online or elsewhere otherwise the cops could use it as cause for arrest.

In addition to finding ear plugs, you may find it worthwhile to find someone who has been even more affected by his behavior.

--If you find someone who he has threatened or assaulted, help them use the legal system.

--If you find someone who lives in his building who can't sleep because of his noise, help them draft a well written letter to their shared landlord.

    ...good luck.

On the other hand, her prison block might be quiet at night.

You need one of those super-focused/targeted audio beams some advertisers are now using to point down at sidewalks.

Wait till he's suuuuper high and finally goes lights go out for the night and when all is dark point it out your window and turn it on for the rest of the night.

Be sure that your endless audio loop includes freaky rants, shrieks of "get the f... out of here" etc., and wicked laughter.

Or you could always go the God route:

    (jump to 1:26)

With any luck the unrelenting voices in his head will deny him sleep and totally freak him out until he finally gives up the wacky tobaccy -fueled annoyances.

Or you could ring their bell and ask them to keep it down as you are trying to sleep. =S

and hope he is too high to figure out that you are the one who threw a rock at his window recently.

Thanks for all the feedback, my fellow Brooklynites.

Not too worried about the police reading my rant on here. I feel like if I went to court and explained to the judge the situation, I would probably get a break considering how many times I have called the police about this individual.

Tried the ringing bell thing the night I threw the rock at his window. He was a bit pissed, but hey so was I.

Don't really have the money to buy earplugs. Maybe I will resort to that, but the reality is that people around her listen to music with heavy bass. Do the earplugs block out the vibrations as well?

As far as people living in his building, most everyone moved out from there already. I think there is like 6 apartments that are vacant and now they are working on renting them out. Hopefully the next crowd of tenants will be as upset by his antics as I am. Who knows when people will move in though.

Just so frustrating that people can be so oblivious to their obnoxious behavior. Aaah the joys of living in New York!

this person is definitely not oblivious to what's going on... they just don't give a shit and, unfortunately, probably think you should just mind your own business.

tough situation and, really, there isn't much you can do besides move.

also, ear plugs are not too expensive. you can get a box of ~ten pairs for under $5.

This isn't by chance a shortish white guy with a beard (may also be without) is it? Should be in his 30's or early 40's

Sounds suspiciously like an old neighbor of mine in PH.

More likely, he is doing it intentionally to be obnoxious.
