Yet another bar for Franklin: The Crown Inn

Yet another? This would make a total of two bars by my count. I don't consider Road House a bar because it only serves beer. No hard booze = no bar in my opinion. Bars don't focus on food, although I hear this one will serve oysters.

Actually, it would be 3 (4 if you count Chavela's).

yes, this is the bar that is expected to serve oysters.

At present, Cornelius on Vanderbilt is the closest place to try this business model. While Cornelius seems to do "an only okay" business, Franklin seems to have a lot more young people.

Do young people who live in renovated, former hospitals like oysters?

Clearly, they may be able to anticipate business from some long term residents who don't live in the hospital as well.

Don't forget Barbacino's has applied for a liquor license. One of their two entrances even says "bar" on it. They should be getting the license real soon. I seem to recall they applied in February.

So make that five bars, counting the new oyster bar and Chavellas. The oyster bar is being operated by the same owner as Franklin Park and Soda. I learned this all my attending the economic development committee meetings at CB 8.

If I were you, I would learned all of this by merely reading Brooklynian and jabbering with Merchant Association members.

I agree that there aren't a lot of places to drink. BUT Gueros on Prospect and Franklin has AMAZING margaritas.

Also, anyone know when Crown Inn is opening? Also anyone think it's a weird name to say outloud? Crown Inn....It sounds weird.

To look a prospective bar or restaurant owner in the eye, now that's a rare thing! Yet it happens once a month at the Economic Development Committee meetings. The actual owner too, not one of his employees or paid front men/women.

What if I do not wish to wield such scrutiny, and secretly despise that illusions of deference are required before local quasi-governmental agencies?

They have great burgers and fries (better and cheaper than Dutch Boy!) and a chill vibe. We need relaxed, inexpensive food-n-beer options like this, especially as pricier fare like Barboncino and Crown Inn join the mix. (Not to take anything away from Barboncino--it's yummy, but a bit pricy for your typical weeknight bite.)

Hope we can keep the Roadhouse open!

Hopefully Crown Inn will be more attuned to the desires and preferences of the neighborhood, and we will not be writing its obituary soon.

Whoa! That's a mouth-ful. Not sure what it all means but seems mad complicated.

Just show up, see what you see, hear what you hear and say what you think. No deference necessary. It's a public event and everyone is encouraged to attend, and in fact, many do.

I'm kinda surprised no one has mentioned Latino Bar to the list of bars on Franklin.

I believe much like " always friends " on franklin the Latino bar you reference is a private social club which is why is does not have a Health Dept. grade in the window.

I haven't tried to have a beer in Latino Bar, but might.

I'm pretty sure I'd have to join the Imperial Bikers to have drink. They do seem to accept people who ride a variety of machines....

The Crown Inn now offers sandwiches, made by an onsite entity known as "Black Tree Sandwich Shop"

Black tree is gone-- as of a month or two ago.

They now have a flyer advertising that "Randalls Barbecue" will be opening this November.

Upgrade? Downgrade? Those sandwiches were a little overpriced, but tasty, and BBQ feels like it's a little messy for a dark bar. We shall see!

BBQ in small spaces = teary eyes and smoke drenched clothes espec. in the winter months when windows are closed.

This isn't going to end well. Do they even have room for a BBQ kitchen? Unless thier bringing the food in from off site.

One of the bartenders mentioned this to me last week, saying they'd be bringing the food in, not making it there

Goldemi that doesn't surprise me. I really can't see the food being that good.

It's a bar. You eat there out of convenience, not because you're an epicure.
