I was at the YMCA this morning and I asked this lady where was the Core traning class. She said: Sorry, I am not allowed to talk to anyone in this facility. If you have a question, you should go the the front desk.

Am I missing something here or she is plain crazy/freak/weirdo...(you name it)?

Maybe she's a resident. Maybe she's sick and tired of gym members asking questions like she's a walking information desk.

Liability avoidance? Some places can be really strict about that...

She is a gym member like me, not a resident, so it doesn't really make sense to me... In any case, there are many ways to avoid answering without being so...weird.

Maybe she had just been giving unsolicited advice to members and was asked by the people at the facility to stop doing that. So that when you asked, she gave you the line she was given out of anger.

Who knows why another member would say something like that? Maybe she just wants to be left alone. I doubt if you see her again you're going to ask her where something else is. So you will be one more person to leave her alone.

Maybe she works at another one (teaches a class or something) and has had people who recognize her from there asking her questions she's not supposed to answer or doesn't know the answers to. But yes, weird.

A woman teaching toddler yoga at the 9th St one was so rude to me (many months ago) that I couldn't believe they had hired her. What happened to people being professional at work. I could imagine her being told to not speak to anyone :)
