ASP double parkers have original spot reserved??

ASP etiquette question:

I used the ASP time slot to run some errands with my car, returning 20 minutes before the end of the slot. I then encountered a guy who insisted that he was entitled to his original spot and that I was guilty of crimes against humanity for showing up 20 minutes before the end of the regs and claiming it. Which was all very strange given that there was another open spot twenty feet further on.

Is this really the commonly understood ASP etiquette or was this guy just a loon?

Complete, utter and total loon on all accounts.

If the guy is sitting in his car - parked directly across the street from the spot he is waiting for... well, I'd say he's entitled to it.

Even if he is a loon.

Ha - the idea that anyone is entitled to any spot, unless they're sitting right next to it with their turn signal on, is a joke.

If you want a particular spot after ASS parking then you move your car 15 minutes before it ends and sit in your car until it is over. Even with that you take the chance of traffic enforcement making you move.

I think the Administrative Code covering ASP says that the law is "no-backsies", but Stacey's "ya snooze, ya lose" could also be correct.

The tradition of "Finder keeper, loser weeper" is also applicable.

Back in the day you could hold a spot with two lawn chairs and broom handle for an entire day.

So, if I'm sitting across from a vacant spot... during ASP - you guys are going park in anyway? Even though I'm RIGHT THERE and telling you NOT to park there?

I doubt it.

That's like saying you can't hold a spot while your wife drives around the block and is going to be there in 3 minutes to load up the kids.

Come on... you're allowed to hold spots ESPECIALLY if you are standing right there.

In my case the dude wasn't sitting right there waiting, he was working in a nearby building while double parked. He looked like a contractor, and honestly I would have moved without complaint if he'd just said, "It would be really considerate if you'd move so I could have my van right here to make my job easier," instead of, "I've lived in the neighborhood for 8 years and this is how it's done, you ******!"

The guy weirded me out because his bearing was that of Hannibal Lecter. Watch out.

Loon, if it's that big a deal to have his van close to the worksite, eat the ticket, cost of doing business. Oh and Eight years! Wow what was Brooklyn like at the turn of the century? Another reason I drive a pile of crap, key my car and I'll notice the clean spot..

You wont get a ticket if you are sitting in your car during ASS Parking time. As long as you move when the sweeper truck comes.

Let's also assume that the brand of car owned by the jerk is correlated to such behavior.

actually, if it matters, it's illegal to stand in a space and wait for the driver to come.
