Wow! So uneventful in it's design.

Finally - the huge glass towers that the city has been so desperately missing.

Your comment above makes no sense, two years after FCR booted Gehry and his original design and replaced it with cheap-looking, bland towers and a George Foreman Grill.

On the bright side, after some poking around beyond what the media reported the street view is designed to be lot more interesting:

I had to dig around on the architect's own web site since the pics in the NY Times blog and the Atlantic Yards Report were only the zoomed-out ones appearing to be made up of just flat brick and glass with little else in the way of personality.

I'll be the first to say I'm positively surprised by this design and that the zoomed-out pics are misleading.

The situation and FCR's approach still sucks in general though. Not surprising how the side view of the new buildings changes perspective on the arena from a waffle/griddle iron to a heaping pile of cow dung.

Yes, the Gehry design for the arena was absolutely way better.

Sadly, the advocates fell in love with the Gehry design without receiving any assurances that it would be the actual design.

The look of the building is not what bothers me - its the safety.

"The trick for developers, architects and engineers in erecting taller modular buildings has been to design an economical bracing system to protect the structure from wind shear and seismic forces." (Quote taken from the New York Times Article).

I do not want my community to be the guinea pig for this.

So much for hiring the local community to build this. I have never in my life been more sad to say "I told you so".

Ummmm duhhhh..... I was saying some people would have hated Gehry if it had been built, hell some would hate Brunelleschi if Ratner was behind it.

I love change. I envy Ratner.

I love new buildings. I hate wasted urban space like the former AY site.

I'd like to have an option whether I buy something or not with my money.

If I am unable choose what I buy, I would like to get what I pay for instead being told I am buying one thing, only to get something else.

I like the honesty of the original modular design, but suspect it was most liked by those into scat.

All new buildings are not equal.

All real estate used for this monstrosity was not unused rail yards.

When one considers that the arena would not have received permission without the CBA, all of the buildings are similar.
