Our cold water has been running yellowish-brown for a week or so. It's happening to all of the units in our apt building. Anyone else in South Slope having issues with their tap water?

Yes, but then I pee in my water.

You probably have a pipe that is corroded and needs to be replaced. If it's only the cold water that's affected, then the problem is going to be in the supply line somewhere. If the hot water is not being affected then it's easy to localize the problem.

I've had the same problem off and on for months and I'm at the border of South Slope/Windsor Terrace.

I had the same problem a while ago. However, it lasted only a few days. They were doing some work on the main sewer line which led to the discoloration. I live in sheepshead.

We and some of our neighbors have had a similar problem (condo in North Slope, both hot and cold water) for several months. If I'm reading the responses correctly, it seems this is more likely to be a pipe requiring replacement than an external issue like sewer work, which would be expected to have only a temporary effect. But does anybody have a more detailed knowledge of this subject?

Well, I called DEP and haven't received any response. Here's what our cold water looked like this morning:

Does the hot water look the same?

Latest update: 16th Street is closed due to a water main break. All the buildings in the area have emergency water shutoff notices.

According to a DEP rep that called me after my 311 complaint, DEP has been out flushing the water mains for the past several nights. I wonder if this could have blown the main...

Tough to see in this pic, but brown water is flowing out of this hole.
