Debate: restuarants south of 9th st vs. restaurants north of 9th st

I would like to debate the following claim:

the number of top-notch restaurants in the portion of the neighborhood south of 9th is greater than the number of top-notch restaurants in the portion of the neighborhood north of 9th st.

Some parameters:

-neighborhood: everywhere between the cemetery and flatbush and between 4th ave and ppw. Let us not turn this into a debate about how to define the neighborhood.

-9th st: restaurants on the south side of 9th st belong to the portion of the neighborhood south of 9th st and vice versa.

-top-notch restaurants: means any restaurant that excels in at least one dimension used to describe the quality of a restaurant, e.g., food quality, creativity, value, service etc. The dimension must be specified when the restaurant is nominated and defended if challenged. It is suggested that rationale be presented when the restaurant is nominated, but this is not necessary.

-format: Restaurant name -portion- (dimension): rationale for dimension [optional]. See samples.

Fonda -south- (food quality): Fonda is hands down the best 'fancy Mexican' in the neighborhood, and probably Brookyn in general. Their mole and guac are second to none.

Talde -south- (everything): is this even debatable?

Yeah, I kind of expected a little more action on this. Especially after I put forth the effort to carefully describe the rules of engagement. Maybe the structure put people off... or maybe "south slope" is just that dominate...

You've named the only two good restaurants south of 9th St. As a whole, do you really think that competes with the following roll call of north of 9th St. restaurants:

Taro Sushi

Convivium

Rose Water

Kiwiana

Al di la

Faros

Palo Santo

Blue Ribbon

Stone Park Cafe

Surfish

all of which excel in food quality and creativity, if not value?

And if that's not enough, there are all the second tier-type places like Reno Provisions (best BBQ); Campo di Fiori (best pizza); Fornino; Benchmark; Ghenet; Authentic Szechuan; Sky Ice (best Thai); Okeanos; Juventino; Flatbush Farm, etc. etc.

Don't get me wrong - I think Talde blows away half the places on my list and might be the best restaurant in the neighborhood. I would just say it's a little too soon to talk about that whole area equalling the north side of 9th.

It also occurred to me that Piccoli is another good one on the south side, but still..

i prefer Lot2 to fonda and talde, though i like them both. sweetwolf is ok, i have not been to soigne. i also like guiseppina's. and for over-priced bar grub, sidecar is hard to beat.

Applewood is not so bad and it's south of 9th st

Applewood is excellent!

I'm no food snob, but I'd kill a man for a jalapeno express burger and fries w/ the chipotle sauce from Bareburger.

I've always felt that if you are on 7th ave, the restaurants are better to the south.

And if you are on 5th ave, they are better to the north.

Perhaps neither end can declare total victory?
