need help unloading a moving truck

I'm moving into a a parlor-level apartment in Park Slope and need to hire a couple of people to unload a 16-foot moving truck.

The anticipated date is Sunday, May 27, probably in the afternoon.

I expect it would take 2 people an hour or two. There isn't much furniture -- mostly boxes.

Does anyone have any recommendations for people in the neighborhood who might be available?

Thanks!

Go to the Lowes or Home Depot parking lot and hire some day laborers. They'll get the job done fast and easy.

I think the Uhaul place on 4th Ave also usually has day laborers, and I'm guessing those guys are expecting to do some moving.

Great ideas -- thanks! Are they usually around all day, or just in the mornings (both at the Uhaul place and at Home Depot/Lowes)?

They can usually be found at Home Depot and Uhaul.

The security at Lowes sometimes shoes them away, so they are there less often.

Mrs Whynot informs me that it is spelled shoo, not shoe. I'd always imagined it being like kicking someone out. Hence relating to the shoe on one's foot.

    She says I am wrong.

PS. Good luck on your move!

Thanks, Whynot. I have a dog that looks much like yours -- perhaps they are cousins. (We are coming from Baltimore.)

I'm still wondering, are the day laborers generally around on Sunday afternoons?

The day laborers are there on Sundays.... All the time.

If you really want to know, you could call the Uhaul place and ask. I bet an employee would know when they are there.

I second the use of the guys by the Uhaul place on 4th avenue.

Tip for finding the best ones:

    They move in shoe time.

A machine gun that fires shoes would be awesome.

Carrie Bradshaw would never run out of ammunition.

That was easy -- thanks for your help, all. We swung by the Uhaul lot on the way into town, and a throng of fellows came running up to the truck. Three of them jumped in, and they unloaded everything into the apartment with no problems.
