All black cat has appeared in my back garden

He/she has just appeared in the last few days, perhaps has been hanging around for a week, since I put out food for another stray (who has been around forever). Just thought I would post in case anyone is missing it. Seems a little scared, but I don't think it's feral.

I am on Eastern and Rogers, but who knows where it may have come from.

Is the cat very large in size? Is it friendly at all? I think I know that cat. He is a male and I have heard he crosses Eastern parkways sometimes. He has been spreading his seed around the neighborhood and there are two kitten offsprings by my place that I take care of.

Not sure if it is the same cat, but if you want to talk more about him or ferals, there is a Trap and Neuter workshop coming up in Bed Stuy at the beginning of December.

Thanks for feeding cats. They make my life so much more tolerable in this neighborhood.

Curious also about the other stray you mentioned, as many of the ones I used to feed scattered around the 'hood.

I know that cat too, if it's the same one Jenee is talking about. I saw him following one of the momma strays that follow me to be pet. She is a lovely grey and white cat with a little tortie kitten, but with the big guy following her around I fear she's going to be adding some more black kitties to the area. Jenee, would you post more details about the TNR workshop coming up? I have a good friend in a completely different area that needs to attend one. I might as well accompany her.

There's always some transient cats in our yard. And the occasional changing of the guard as males displace other males in territorial battles.

If they're not trying to get in your graces, odds are they're either feral, or have a nearby human family to rely on.

Does the black cat have a left ear tip (the top of his left ear tip has been cut off)? If so, he has been neutered in a TNR project. The infamous black cat that crosses Eastern Parkway is no longer intact. We did a TNR project in that area last February and were able to trap him.

Here is the link for the info on the upcoming TNR workshops:

    http://www.neighborhoodcats.org/EVENTS_NYC_WORKSHOPS

The workshops will educated you on TNR as well as caring for feral and stray cats. It will provide you with info on the best food to give, how to provide simple medical care without a trip to the vet, how to care for the cats in winter weather, and how to recognize if a cat would be best suited to an indoor situation and what to do about it.

It is a wonderful resource of information and you will meet a group of experience and educated caretakers throughout nyc who can help you.
