Ladies, is there a good place in the hood to get a wax?

D'mai Urban Spa on 5th across from the Met (or Key?) Foods there.

I've heard that the place on 3rd Street & 6th ave is good. No personal experience, though.

I think my friend uses 7 Nails on 7th ave & Union.

Soraya at Nu Yu in Clinton Hill is fabulous. She's there on Wednesdays and Fridays...Nu Yu also does spectacular pedicures. Call ahead, as they don't take walk-ins.

I used to go to a place on 7th Aveune and 9th Street. They were all Russian and they would totally make fun of you if you showed any signs of weakness. "Am I hurting the little baby?" "You will live, yes?"

Too bad it's a bit of a hike from my new place in the Heights.

I am bumping this thread because I am hoping that some new readers will have some advice. Ladies: best place for a wax in PH or surrounding area?

What, the Russian folks mentioned above don't appeal?

eyebrow wax is great at polish on 5th ave and sterling.

Nothing personal to those of y'all who do this, but the idea of waxing my lady bits squicks me out to no end. I let my freak flag fly, baby!

It's work-safe and not gory or anything. It only shows the facial expressions of British women being waxed, set to some jaunty music. Sort of like the shots of Steve Carell during the waxing scene in The 40-Year-Old Virgin. It's hilarious -- my favorite is the woman right at the end.

Fat Boy Slim remix, was huge on MTV Europe a number of years ago.

there is a (relatively) new place on 5th just north of prospect called Method and it's my new favorite place for mani/pedis and waxes. the prices are reasonable yet it has a clean, spa-like feel and the people working there are nice. since i found method, polish nail spa is history for me.

There's a place on 7th Ave & 1st or Garfield that I thought was pretty good (and not horribly painful). Unfortunately I can't remember the name. There was a thread a few weeks ago about spas in the area which is how I heard of it...

Ladies, this is not in PH, but I just had a truly fabulous wax at Shobha in Soho. At $50, way spendy, but worth it. They are very thorough (they thread after they wax) and give you a "bikini facial" with cold compresses when they are done. Also, they don't double-dip the stick, which, when you think about it, is pretty disturbing that most places do.

Hey steve I have been seeing lots more men getting waxed lately (mostly unibrow types and hairy shoulder guys)

I went to D'Mai Urban Salon on Fifth this summer for eyebrows and lady parts. They tried to make it as relaxing as possible, but try as I might I still can't play it off like it ain't no thang. I must go again soon. Where is this new Method/Element Beauty Lounge and how much do they charge for a wax please?

Not your surfboard? Then yinz sure do take care of your hardwood floors, that's for sure.

I love Esther at the place on 3rd and 6th ave, Slopewise (Rom Pal?). She gets right down to business, no dilly-dallying.

As for the dudes. last time I was there I had to wait a bit for my lady (Esther), when, who should come out of the hair-removal chamber before me, but an enormous policeman! My special lady (Esther) let me in on the scoop: Officer Follicle was taking part in Operation Back Carpet Removal.

So far all my experiences there have been fabulous. It's my regular place now.

Do you know if Element Spa have a separate room with a door and walls that go all the way up to the ceiling and down to the floors which they use for the waxing?

I believe they do the waxing downstairs, and the buffing and painting upstairs, so no worries on that count.

Is it just me or is it kibbles 'n' bits month on the boards? We've had the famous Park Slope author, the Britney & Paris Show in the lounge, and now this.

I've never even gone for a manicure, myself. I'm totally DIY - hair color, haircut, hair removal, nails ...

this is correct, nothing to worry about there
