Each year at the end of the Slope's St. Patricks Day Parade, we're treated to an overload of drunks standing outside Farrell's Bar, requiring a dozen or so NYPD officers, who conduct the annual ritual of corralling them behind barriers, like cattle.

One of the Officers told me it was an enlightening experience, as he now knows how many pinheads you can fit on a corner, he also added, "How do they determine whose leg they'll relieve themselves on?"

I often wonder if it's the beer that makes their day or just having a stranger, regardless of gender, pressed against them for a few hours, without making a commitment.

I am impressed that they have managed to keep the guests' drinking to inside the bar.

This is a simple case of commerce over community.

Just try drinking a container of beer on your stoop and see what happens.
