Time: March 19, 2012, Approximately 8:00 PM.

Location: One of the last vacant tenement buildings within a block of bustling Franklin Ave.

Sighting: Work lights and laborers in a long vacant building

Information:Laborers are discarding years of debris from homeless residents.

Work permit affixed to door.

Slightly odd man with brown dog walking by with smile on his face.

Inference: This is being done in preparation for a potential buyer, or (even better), the arrival of skilled tradesmen: Plumbers, electricians, tilers, carpenters.

For fun, here's an active listing for an apartment that is likely the exact same size as the eight (8) units in this building, located next door in 628 Park Pl:

I called about this place 2 years ago. I have a PA cell number still and when I called was screamed at to stop harassing him because I had apparently called a dozen times. (I had not). But this means other people from the poconos had been calling. He was asking 1.6 million.

They have been slowly (very slowly), surreptitiously working on repairs on that building for years. The construction signs are a relatively new recent development. Not a large crew working on the building.

The Work Permit encourages me the most.

It means that someone related to this building has the skills to navigate DOB, and therefore might be able to get the building back to a level that it could be inhabited.

    ...or sold, and then inhabited.

I talked to a few of the workers about three years ago. They said it would be ready "at the end of the year." Not a lot of hope for it getting done in a timely manner, but it's nice to see the last abandoned building getting some work done.

There continues to be evidence of work slowly happening.
