Attempted house break in during day - hole drilled through front door- Crow Hill

Yesterday when we came home we noticed that someone has begun to drill a small hole in the door of our brownstone in Crow Hill section of Crown Heights. This happened during the day. The wood shavings were still on the ground, an electric drill was obviously used. They didn’t make it completely through the door – someone suggested that they were probably interrupted.

I am alerting area residents through this post so that they remain extra vigilant. We have also alerted almost all of our neighbors on our block, including the President of the block association and everyone is keeping a look out. We have been in Crow Hill for many years - a great community - and this is the first time we have ever experienced, what we have concluded is, an attempted break in – or criminal mischief. Of course we called the police to report the incident.

Reminder to all - if you have an alarm system – use it. We certainly do.

Be vigilant. If you think something looks suspicious (i.e. someone crouching on a doorstop drilling a hole through) maybe your hunch is right…

Thank you for the heads up. Maybe its the beginning of the crime season. The "jewelers" on Nostrand between St. marks and Prospect had some numbnut try to do a smash and grab through their window. Now there are three hammerlike smash marks on the safety glass. Makes me feel better about getting safety glass with wire in it so idiots could at least see that it wasn't worth it to try to smash through the glass.

The lithium battery powered drills and grinders are really quite powerful.

...definate advantages over the crowbar or hammer methods.
