Street Salad

This is what the corner of Vanderbilt and Bergen looked like this morning around 7. Piles of rice, whole tomatoes and potatoes rolling around. Obviously restaurant trash.

I don't know whether to be relieved or disgusted that it's raining now.

I guess a bag fell off the truck of one of those private carters. It's disgusting, but more than likely an accident and not a regular problem.

The garbage on the streets this summer has been disgusting. Especially on Eastern Parkway between Franklin and Classon where litter is strewn all over the pedestrian mall. I have called the DOS and was told that area is the parks dept. responsibility. I contacted them as well as Letitia James and have not heard or seen any progress. On the northern side of the pedestrian mall on Eastern Parkway there are three garbage bins between Franklin and Classon, one bin between Classon and Washington, eight bins, eight brand new cast iron mounted bins between Washington and Underhill and three of the same new bins between Underhill and Plaza.

That happens sometimes. I once saw a dead rat fly out the back of a sanitation truck!

Burgerking I've noticed that too. The parks people come out once a day in the mid to late morning to clean it up. However they or the NYPD need to go after the people leaving their trash there.

The big building on Sterling and Vanderbilt also often has disgusting food trash on the street. I think it is a school. I avoid walking past it and changed my work commute so I don't have to see it.

I have to agree it must have been an accident. That corner has four restaurant/bars who I have seen sweeping and cleaning their areas. Pequena always has someone cleaning the front of their place and sidewalks in the morning.

The only shocking thing here is that someone called Letitia James and expected results.

my neighbor emailed letitia about putting in metrocard machines at the washington end of the C train stop at clinton washington. BOOM.

Chill folks, I'm NOT blaming the restaurants. Interesting that people want to take it there. In fact, I am not even blaming the carting company, Mr. T. (yes, seriously) whose guys seemed to be trying and finally gave up when an enormous Mack truck driver kept honking his horn.

The sidewalks are never pleasant on trash day, especially in the summer. I just thought it was an inordinate amount of trash - seriously, it was a like a farmer's market on the road - and worth sharing the ridiculousness.

Here's a little something to put it in perspective: I was just in Manhattan and, at around 10th Avenue and 31st Street, saw a man take a dump in the street between two parked cars.
