ER/Urgent Care easy to access from Crown Heights or Manhattan?

I tore or strained something very badly and walking isn't really possible, at least without gasps. My Primary care, who I actually haven't seen yet "isn't at the office right now" and they don't know when she will be back, if ever. I can't wait the 3 days it will take for the next Dr. Does anyone know of any urgent care facilities or ERs that are still open that are convenient to get to? In the past when I've had problems I've gone to Lenox Hill with the reasoning that with a high income neighborhood the wait might be better. It's feeling pretty far away right now though. With hospitals closing left and right I don't even know where to go anymore.

Tate, do you have insurance? If so, you can call your insurance company and find out what urgent care centers it is affiliated with.

If that doesn't work I'd recommend Mt Sinai Urgent Care. My son's doctor is affiliated with Mt. Sinai and I've had to take him to their urgent care facility in Brooklyn Heights when he's gotten sick and his doctor wasn't available.

This is their website, and they are definitely better than an emergency room.

There's a couple of urgent care places mentioned here: http://brooklynian.com/forum/prospect-heights/what-er-do-you-go-to

Thank you Mamacita. I knew there were similar posts out there but was only finding old ones. My "insurance" is such that I will need to pay cash for urgent care or go to an ER. If I keep getting worse or the list of tests an Urgent Care Doc wants to do is more than I can handle I'll be facing the ER. Any recommendations for that?

    tateinbk,

I can't stress this enough RICE your leg, ankle, knee or whatever is hurting untill you get medical aid.

    Rest

    Ice

    Compression

    Elevate

My old doctor's office tried to pull the oh your doctor is out of town and the others are booked thing. I just kept pestering them and reminding them that it was an emergency and as their patient they have a ethical duty to treat me promptly. Low and behold by my third phone call in one day they magically found an opening with one of their doctors.

    Wishes for a speedy recovery!

With regards to ER's you don't really have a lot of options. Methodist in Park Slope, Brooklyn in Ft. Greene, Lutheran in Sunset Park, are probably the easiest.

I don't know if Interfaith is still taking patients and I'm not sure I'd recommend you go there anyway. Kings County is only good if you need a trauma surgeon or a 72 hour hold. I wouldn't send a dog to Woodhull. That's pretty much all of the central Brooklyn hospitals.

Maimonides is also pretty good too. Large new, clean facilities

Yep, its got a very good ER (my primary works there), but it's a bit out of the way if you are getting around only on one good leg.

Thank you for the suggestions. With icing, rest and IB Profen I'm feeling better. We'll see what happens when I have to take the progeny on the subway tomorrow. I wonder if it will be worse to pull/push him in a stroller or put his 30 lbs on my back in a carrier. Why am I not independently wealthy? Huh!? Or have medical options that don't all stink. After lugging the kid around tomorrow I may end up at the ER yet.

Thank you for your concern. :) I'm much better. Despite the horrifying pain earlier in the week I'm basically back to my usual state. Let's hear it for IB Profen and icing. The last time I used this regime along with a heavy dose of Stiff Upper Lip it turned out I had torn all the ligaments in an ankle so that was my concern with doing the same. Things seem to be working themselves out. If I ever get real insurance again I'll go to a proper orthopedist, get an MRI and see for sure if I didn't do something very very bad. :)
