Construction Noise - Weekends and Holidays

Question, generally is it acceptable for construction to take place on holidays and Sundays? I live right by the billiards factory being converted to lofts on St Marks and they did pretty loud construction on Thanksgiving day and this past Sunday. The construction this past Sunday was super loud around noon and unbearable so I had to leave my apt.

I looked at nyc.gov and they mention special permits to work off hours. Is there a way for me to look up these permits? I am just wondering what a reasonable expectation is for Brooklyn residential construction.

    Go to this site:

    http://a810-bisweb.nyc.gov/bisweb/bispi00.jsp

and plug in the address. There will be a list of permits for this address.

The DOB does offer "after hours" permits for weekends. I'm surprised about Thanksgiving day. There's a good chance that this building doesn't have such permits and is working illegally.

You can call the DOB and complain. You may have to call a few times before they come out. If the contractor/developer is really a jerk, he will ignore the DOB & pay any small fines he gets.

Thanks, it looks like they win. They have Sunday permits for the month of December from 10am-4pm.

Sorry. The good news is that it will eventually be over.

Yeah, it's slated to wrap up by spring 2015, according to the signage.
