Shots near Nostrand

Just heard two volleys of shots near Nostrand about a minute apart from each other. I'm on Pacific and Nostrand, and they sounded like they were a couple blocks south of me. Stay safe out there, folks.

It's a shame. I haven't heard any in a pretty long time.

Anyone have any more information? I just walked by Nostrand and Pacific going up to the Nostrand A. I would have been out there around the time of the shooting. I didn't hear anything or see any emergency response from the NYPD or the FDNY.

It usually shows up on http://www.spotcrime.com/ny/brooklyn relatively quickly if the police/an ambulance are called - and I don't see anything there.

Last sunday, someone else on this forum reported hearing shooting in the same area (nostrand/pacific) and there was similarly no record of a crime.

Perhaps it's become someone's sunday tradition to fire shots in the air? Mine is to stay inside all day sleeping, but to each their own.

correction sorry - I just noticed that on the thread I linked to whynot says spotcrime reports only if someone is hit, not if the police are called and he's probably right.

Laura, Spotcrime can be notoriously inaccurate even if an incident is reported and someone is shot it might not show up.

The real news junkies use a scanner to listen to a specific frequency:

Or, use one of the various websites that re-broadcasts the scanners over the web:

The biggest "bang for the buck" is obtained by listening to the Special Operations Division, (aka the Emergency Service Unit), which responds to most homicides or shootings in which a person is hit:

...for a fee, BNN will let you subscribe to their feed, which simply uses the above sources:
