I'm looking for a good therapist in the Park Slope area, preferably one with a sliding scale. I'm a female in her early 20s who just moved to New York.

Any suggestions would be great!

Thanks!

Lynn Radov on 12th Street between 8th and PPW is great unless you're looking for a stuffy type with a gloomy office. She works out of her home, and has 2 mini schnauzers that are adorable and sweet. She is very easy to talk to and has helped me alot. I've been seeing her on and off for almost 7 years now. She makes you feel very comfortable and the dogs don't interfere at all. If you'd like more specific information you can PM me. Her number is 718-965-0273. She might sound a little brusque on the phone if she's with a patient but that's just because she likes to give them all her attention.

I know there are therapist referral services but I have no idea what they are offhand.

Why is she even answering the phone if she's with a patient? If I was pouring my heart out, I wouldn't even want to hear the phone ring, let alone have my therapist answer it.

You could also give the Psychology Today website a try. There's a link there with profiles of therapists, types of therapy, location, schooling, etc.

Sharon Peters is very good. Although she does a lot of work with parents (think of where we LIVE), she is great on individual issues. She's on President Street off 5th Avenue. #718-638-9444.

There is a place on Flatbush Ave. right across from the Burrito Bar called Brooklyn Center for Psychotherapy.

VeggieQueen, since I'm not Lynn Radov I can't answer that question. But there are times when a patient has called her in severe distress and I'm sure they were glad to get her instead of her answering machine. I know I didn't mind having my session interrupted because someday that could be me.

    Kekesquire--

NYU Post-Doctoral Program (1-800-POSTDOC). They are dirt cheap and they helped a good friend.

    Good luck to you.

I did not like Lynn Radov. I got nothing out of going to see her, it pissed me off when she answered the phone during sessions, and her dogs were not that friendly.

I happened to get alot out of seeing Lynn, a friend that used to see her didn't. It's all about personal preference. It didn't piss me off at all when she answered the phone (you can see why in my post above). As far as her dogs, I found Heather and Jolie to be very friendly. And her new ones Cole and Mika have also been quite friendly to me.

I can understand you saying that you didn't like Lynn but you give no actual reasons why. And I think that her dogs just weren't that friendly to you, not that they aren't friendly.

Any choice of doctor, therapist, psychologist, hairdresser, leg waxer, or whatever is individual to each person. Just because I don't connect with someone doesn't mean that they aren't good at what they do.

I was so tired last night I couldn't think of anything else, I don't even know where the heck I came up with leg waxer! #-o

Katie Ryan, whom I know very well, sees clients on Saturdays in Park Slope on 8th Ave. I recommend checking out whether she might work out for you. I think she's great. http://www.katieryantherapy.com/

Park Slope Mental Health Clinic provides sliding scale therapy and psychiatry. They are great, just you have to bus it down to sunset.
