Carn, perhaps you could remix your ketchup avatar with a little smarmy Tony Snow . . .

If there is one thing I would change about Smith's interaction w/Snow it would've been for him to have emphasized--and left his viewers with that final thought--that the White House's offer takes exception to people going under oath.

In other words, when in his final remarks Tony Snow says, "What they're not going to get is the ability to create a show- trial atmosphere, because you know what? People are a little bit tired of that. And they probably would like to get the truth. Wouldn't you?" for Smith to have said something like, "Yes, but if people aren't under oath chances are we won't get the truth", or words to that effect.

Otherwise, it was great to finally see a member of the mainstream media that isn't Jack Cafferty stop rolling over and playing dead for this administration.

yeah, agreed that it would be nice to see all the majors do their job . . . since the White House is basically insisting on the equivalent of an off-the-record unattributed interview with Congress.
And not even making up a substantive excuse - just we don't WANNA. No national security, no pending litigation, just FU. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
