Hi al,

I need some advice, I have a 7 AM flight out of LaGuardia Airport on Wednesday. What is the standard rate from our neighborhood to the airport? I called Aribica, they wanted $30, is this fair? How much do you usually tip?

Also, how much does a yello cab normally run from LaGuardia back to Prospect Heights? Last time I took a cab from Kennedy, it was $50!

Thanks so much

I live in Crown Heights a few blocks away from the Brooklyn Museum of Art , I don't know if thats near where you live , and we paid $30 from my apartment to LaGuardia using Eastern Car Service. My husband tipped him $5.

Yellow cab , I have no clue.

what em has said sounds accurate, and your return trip should be about that, or less, in a Yellow Cab.

what you paid from Kennedy was accurate as well.

We pay $28 to LGA... I know they charge more during rush hour in the mornings, but I don't know how much (maybe this is where the $30 comes from?).

re: JFK... it all depends on how they take you. I tell them to take North Conduit to Atlantic to Vanderbilt, which usually runs me about $30-ish (before tip). Though, when I first moved here (and obviously didn't know how to go), a yellow cab driver took some crazy way and it was about $50.

    What about to JFK?

I am leaving for LA in a few hours...

Wow. $50 to/from JFK is WAY too much. Ditto Veggie Queen's suggestion -- don't let them take you on the Belt. Atlantic seems to be a bit slower than Atlantic, however, so I usually tell them Conduit - Atlantic - Eastern Parkway, but I'm sure it's a toss-up, depending on your location within PH.

I've gone both ways and it seems to be about the same (I'm inbetween Atlantic and Eastern Parkway.

Whatever car service you end up with, make sure you take their card so when you get back into NY you don't get stuck with the vultures that hover around the airport trying to charge you 10 times as much to get you back home. Last time I was at JFK, two different car service guys tried to charge me $65 to get to Park Slope. What?!?! So I call my local guys and they had someone out to meet me in 10 minutes. $35 dollars later I was home relaxing. :D

Or just avoid the vultures and go to the cab stand.

I just did this last Tuesday (also 7am) -- Evelyn on Vanderbilt was $25 to LGA, and the cab ride home was a little over $30 (i go BQE to the Tillary exit and up Flatbush). I usually tip $5, but I think 10-15% is normal. Evelyn back from JFK was $35.

if you get out at the exit before tillary - I think it's kent - you can just head south on washington or vanderbilt or wherever you live, instead of having to go all the way to tillary and then all the way back on flatbush.

Hi, we called Aribica, they will be here at 4:15AM. The driver will call when he is on the way. They said it would be $28 to the airport. I'll let you know how much the yellow cab is on the way home.

the only problem here is that they still don't know how to find conduit or pretend not to and lie - totally not fun.

Yeah. I had asked when they first dropped me off if they did pick ups too and they said yes. When I got back into JFK I called them and told them I was outside the baggage claim area of Jet Blue and told them what I looked like (wearing a hat, blue coat etc). Soon after I saw a car drive by with a sign that had the name of the car service on it, he saw me at the same time. I waved him over and the rest was history. Sorry for the long story! :)
