The exact same thing happened to me when I lived in the Bronx. It sucks. Make sure you file a police report (although there may already be one if the person who hit you did as much damage to their own car as they did to yours).

Remember to deduct it from your 2007 taxes. I'd double the amount first.

I was walking down Union St. yesturday at about 7pm .I passed a car pushed ontop of the side walk of Prospect Heights High School...tires were ripped up .
I think it was a burgundy colored station wagon , or something like that.

Is it yours? Is on Union between Classon and Franklin Ave.

Nothing wrong with it, exactly. My place affords a "scenic" view of that street so I've seen that it gets crazy there at night. Especially right around the intersection of Union and Franklin. Fine during the day, but based on the nighttime behavior I've observed there, it's not a street I would walk down alone after dark. Seems to be an area that attracts crowds of people who like to hang out on the street and get trashed. Who knows if they even live on that block, or even in the neighborhood.

Yeah, that's my little red wagon. 7pm, huh? ok, I think it got hit the night before, although even though my bedroom window faces that direction, and I'm a really light sleeper....I guess I missed hearing my car getting smashed to pieces...
I'm going to try to donate it- anyone have any suggestions?

I'm so sorry to hear about your car, whatchu. Owning a car in NYC can be such a heartbreaking experience. :(

When I lived in Bklyn Heights, on one of those narrow little side streets, I witnessed a delivery truck get WEDGED in between the parked cars on the right side and a double-parked car on the left side. It just RIPPED its way through and continued on down the street. I didn't catch the license plate, unfortunately.
