Car towed! Street Paved!

So, my car seems to have disappeared. This week, alternate side of the street parking was suspended, so I thought I was all good. But, last night when I got home, the street was newly paved and my car was gone. I am on the phone with the tow pound in BK, but mainly want to know if anyone knows the legality about this? If there are no signs posted and the car is moved without your knowledge, is that legal? And, what do I do?

I'm sure there were signs - always have been on other streets I've seen them planning to do stripping and re-paving.

Yeah. No signs, but thanks for the great advice.

So, it seems it wasn't towed, it was relocated somewhere. Now I am on the hunt on and off the phone with the police and DOT. Never thought Friday was going to be so exciting.

They repaved a street without any warning? Wow. Did they tow/"move" a whole bunch of other cars too?

Yeah. So, just got off the phone with the Police Precinct. Looks like what happens is they move all the cars from the road, but keep a "record of relocation" so they can tell you where they moved your car. So, if anyone else was parked on Prospect Ave yesterday and is missing their car, you can call the 72nd Precinct. Mine was just moved around the corner. Happy Friday!

Phew! well, look at the bright side: it wasn't towed and you don't have to pay a fine to get it back.

There were signs up on Tues or Weds. They were everywhere but if you don't live on the Street you may not have noticed them. Yes, they relocated them on Thurs. First they put them on the sidewalks and then took them away. They may have done it again today, when I left for work there were a bunch of orange cones by 6th Ave and several cars on that corner were gone. There were no signs up about THAT.

Ok, the orange cones are Con Ed. They appear to be all over the place.
