selling cds

I know I am going to sound like 1995 but I'll ask anyway... Anyone know where would be a good place to sell some cds? We're talking mostly about decent stuff--newer indie rock and such. Any suggestions?

I never sold online. I used to go to the village to sell.
I got the best money from Mondo Kims, and secondly Generation Records.
that provides its a CD they want/need. Mondo is very picky.
Normans Sound usually takes anything but will pay close to nothing for it

eBay is very easy, you only have to enter the UPC label. They have the artwork and description. Just state the condition and keep the shipping low. You may want to buy some CD mailers at Staples. Also, offer shiping to Europe without the jewel case to save them shipping costs.

And you can order all sorts of stamps online so you won't have to go to the post office as long as you have a small scale.

And it's always good to check out the current auctions for that CD and the "Completed Items" as well to see if it sold and for what price.

Oiseau seems to have a good idea, but I know you can also sell used CDs at Earwax on Bedford Ave in Williamsburg. I like that store. Not sure what their used payments are like though.

I sell a lot of used books and movies on Amazon, which is really easy, but I've found it really hard to sell CDs. They're not worth much any more---wonder why? You might have better luck with rare ones, though.

I also have a ton of CDs I want to get rid of... Probably 1500 or more....

Boygabriel, do you know if Earwax has a preference to what type of music they buy more or do they just give you a bulk rate to take these off your hands? What about quality issues? How does it work?

Ebay is definitely the way to go. A few years ago when my wife and I took the big step of merging our CD collections (before we were married!) we made much more money selling our dupes thru Ebay than what secondhand stores offer. We found it's a good idea to list discs in groups, i.e. all your REM CD's together in one posting, all your Britpop in other, etc. We found there are still loads of kids in parts of America who are miles away from decent record stores and for whom a $3 CD is still way better value than itunes.

Once it's WARMER and LESS WET, list a "stoop sale" of your CDs. The collectors/resellers will come out in droves. Trust me.

We do a mega-stoop sale on my entire block every year and CDs and vinyl are the first things folks are looking for.

Unfortunately I do not know what their genre preferences are. I think they buy CDs individually though.
