Anyone use any of these guys for home security? What's been your experience?

Yup, a shepherd mix and a pitbull tend to deter anyone from trying to break in to my place. Little do they know the pit's bark really is worse than her bite. Don't tell but she'd probably run away with her tail between her legs!

That's so funny, I also have a shepherd mix and a scaredy-cat pit bull mix. The pit is scared of everything, but he has a loud bark.

Hmm... I do love dogs, but am still wondering about the security companies specifically.

    Anywho?

    Subject: Neighborhood Security Companies/Locksmiths

    Hi Everyone,

I will most likely be moving into a CH apartment towards the end of this month. Can anyone recommend a reputable, not-too-expensive security company and/or locksmith?

I have a window over a fire escape that I'd like to explore, and I'm looking for alternatives to a grate.

    Thanks!

I have used ADT for a theater and residential buildings. They are good but very expensive. I got rid of them and switched to DGA. They are better and less than half the price. If you want to go bottom line, use D & W alarm co. They are assholes but not irresponsible. If you are looking for a central station monitor, almost any security guy can hook you up. There's lots of independent central stations out there that are cheaper than the big boys. They all do the same thing basically.

Ken Egbert of DNE Security has done alarm work, intercom, CCTV, CO alarms and elevator panic buttons for me. He is basically a one man operation with a central monitoring station somewhere in Brooklyn. Never a problem for over 10 years. I'm sure his prices are competative. PM if you want his number.

slomins has been nothing but trouble. the installation process was AWFUL, AWFUL, AWFUL. they suck. ADT is more, but if I were to do it all over again, I'd go that way. Acdtually, I'd go w/the independed guy who was even more expensive, but seemed to have a soul.

And, frankly, after the damn thing has gone off a couple of times, you'll stop turning it on anyway and just hope someone will be so kind as to take everything in your house but not wake you, so only go that route if you REALLY think you want it.

I had a bad experience with Adt both in my own properties abd as the first contact for a friend who used the system. I don't need to give you all details.. but there were some pretty crazy stories. Bottom line... try someone else.

You should stay away from Slomins. From an installation nightmare, to shorting out my phone lines to howling alarms that can't be shut off and a two week wait for a service call, my entire experience with them was negative.
