Anyone have good suggestions for a space that will pleasantly accomodate 20 or so ladies for a Saturday or Sunday afternoon baby shower in Park Slope?

Any suggestions appreciated as well as contacts, etc.

Magnolia Restaurant on 6th ave @ 12th Street closes for private parties all the time, including lots of showers. I've never been to one, but I live on the street and see shower-like parties their a few times a month. Food is good and the owner is nice.

Not in the slope, but easy to go get to nonetheless: Bubbies in Dumbo.

I looked into a bunch of places in PS for a group of 30 to have a dinner party, most were much more expensive and not as nice as Bubbies.

Another place that would be great is... Aunt Suzies... The food is good and they will come up with a deal for a group that large if you preorer but even if each guests ordered individually it wouldn't be too expensive. On Sat afternoon bet they would give you the back area of the room and you can open gifts and stuff.

I'm throwing a baby shower in june and I decided to have it in prospect park. I'm gonna grill along with some catered food. Hey it's an idea.

Are you mad? Why do that when the Gate has plenty of patio space?

Just kidding. The picnic in the park idea -- as long as weather cooperates -- sounds excellent. Aunt Suzie's is OK, but the thought of real-live bar-b-qed anything on a grill outside tugs my tasebuds more than any standard American Italian dish. Just make sure you don't get stuck doing the work. Get pals to grill and clean up for you.

This is also a good idea because your party can stay in the park longer than it can in restaurants.

How do you work the weather though? Do you have a rain date or a tent?

I can only wish for great weather that day but I will have a rain date just incase. I'm more worried about my friend delivering prematurely.

I'm doing an anti-rain dance for you.

Making babies in the park is one thing, but delivering there would be really wild.

Here's a random, inappropriate question: on NPR radio's abortion debate story, a pundit said that being pregnant and delivering a baby is more dangerous than having an abortion. Is that true? Either way, I better go mother's day shopping today.
