I'm looking at an apartment near Union St & Grand Army Plaza. Does anyone here live near there and have thoughts on traffic-related noise? How bottersome is it?

Is the apartment on Union? If so, I'd recommend that you visit in the morning and afternoon on weekday. Union St, leading into GrAP is usually backed up all the way to 8th Ave (and sometimes beyond) all morning and afternoon. I haven't heard a lot of honking when I walk by, but if you're concerned about exhaust fumes, I'd recommend getting a unit in back.

Also - with regard to noise, it really does depend how high your apartment is. We're on 8th Ave, 7th floor, and the noise is tolerable. The larger streets (such as 8th and Union) get more of the truck traffic, so it can sometimes get a bit loud. We usually sleep with a fan on for some white noise.

Sometimes vehicles must sit in rush hour traffic causing frustrated drivers to honk and scream at each other while traffic cops direct heards of kids across the street. I would not take it if the bedroom was near the street.

Yeah I can't imagine putting my money down to be subjected to the onslaught of noise at that location.. Far be in frm me to tell you what to do.. Pass on moving in to that apartment.. If I were your mother that is what I would tell you.

I live on Union btw 8th and PPW and I don't have any problem with the noise. That being said, I live on the top (4th) floor and in the back of the building--though I suppose my bedroom's window is on the building's side. Regardless, it's not too bad. And when the AC goes in I won't hear anything but the sweet sound of my dog snoring.

    Subject: say nay

I had a friend who lived there in an apartment on the 2nd floor and hated the noise and dirt (her windowsills and everything near them were constantly filthy from the exhaust).
