Place to have a Cuban breakfast?

My mom is in town from Miami and she wants to have a Cuban breakfast (cafe con leche, tostada, some eggs). I'm at a loss as to where I can take her.

She'll spot a Dominican or PR restaurant masquerading as Cuban, so it needs to be authentic. Anyone know someplace I can take her?

I don't know of any extraordinarily good places, but El Vejo Yayo (?) on 5th ave a few blocks before you hit Atlantic is good. They have great cafe con leche and they have the bread to dip it in. The breakfast was OK too. Nice music.

We went to Carnevento (I seriously don't know the name of the place, Castillo Jaguar something?) which is Dominican and she was ok with that. The cafe con leche wasn't up to her standards but the breakfast was really good. They made the eggs perfectly, the home fries were tasty and they actually made Latin-style toast for us instead of the American slices they normally give.

Thumbs up to this place and the great service.

yeah, I was gonna say - you're not likely to find any place in nyc that, even if owned by for reals cubans, that is actually serving true cuban food. sigh.

but carneviento's breakfast is delish. I just wish I could get my hands on real cuban bread and pastelitos.

Biscuit (on 5th Ave at President) has had Cuban Sandwiches on their menu board for the last few days. That is not an endorsement, just an observation. Two blocks away at Press, the "Cuban" sammy is not even made with the right ingredients unless you tell them every last detail...
I'm nostalgic too, and I'm not even Cuban. Or Latina.
