Anyone know why all the fireworks last night?

    I heard it from my apartment and it sounded really close but I couldn't see anything from my windows (I'm north of the park and my windows all face north). Figured it was in the park, though.

    Anfield, are you sure it was Celebrate Brooklyn? I looked at the schedule online and it's not supposed to start for another week and a half:

    it was last nite. they had the fireworks, then showed a movie.

    it's part of the brooklynbest festival that continues today with the tour de brooklyn and a festival in grand army plaza...i think the schedule and everything was posted in the park slope forum this past week.

    I dont know... i think there were some others going off too. Like corner of Sterling and Washington.

    so much for bike riding in the park today, huh? dammit

    It didn't scare me -- I could tell the sound was fireworks right away. But I did have to peel a couple of cats off the ceiling afterward. :)

    Same here. So i went to my roof, caught a pretty spectacular finale...

    I thought I was going to go deaf from all the noise. I face towards the park, so I got a nice view from my window (yay top floor for a change!) and could smell the fumes from the explosions. It was cool though.

    iz - looks like you're across the st from me. i'm wash b/t sterling and st johns.

    my cats and girlfriend freaked out. the echo between my building and the ones around me was even louder than the fireworks when i went up to the roof

    I think they actually blast them from the parking lot behind the museum, if I'm not mistaken. Even after living next door for 10 years, I still think it's World War III, and I always have to remind myself.

    For those of you that are new too the neighborhood, there is a fireworks display every New Year's Eve in Prospect Park near the Grand Army Plaza entrance.
