Washington Cafe - between bergen st. marks

pizza, burgers and indian food? anyone tried it yet? I grabbed a menu yesterday

They sound confused...

oh, off subject - I had WC breakfast today, and they went old skool and fried an egg instead of the reheated scrambled egg patties... mmmmmm...

that cafe confuses me. i live half a block away, and i was excited for months about a new pizza place on my corner. go figure, one panel of the menu is breakfast / pizza, and the rest is indian food. not sure how i feel about ordering indian from a pizza place... or pizza from an indian place.... but i can tell you that opening night was a par-TAY. friends and family piling out on the street. i hope they can figure it out, cause a new food option on that block is a good thing.

I don't think they're confused, really - the market next door is bangladeshi. I think they're serving pizza because there's a clear need for it, but I bet you their indian food is damn good.
I'm more interested, frankly, in the quality of the pizza. has anyone had a slice?!?!

I hope so. there used to be an indian/italian place in midtown that had some awesome crossover pizzas.

i ordered pizza there w/ my roommates and we all liked it better than papa johns, haha.. also someone ordered rogan josh and said it was pretty good... and not expensive. oh, but the first time they delivered to us, they got lost seriously for like an hour and a half.. otherwise delivery is so quick. like 15-30 mins.

Subject: good indian food and well priced

I ate there last week during their "grand opening". It was about 110 degrees in there, hotter than the food but pleasantly surprising when I walked out into 90 degree weather.

They offer a $10.99 special where you get to choose an appetizer and an entree. Also included are rice, nan, raita and chutney. I had samosas and chicken tikka masala, which was exellent. The portions were huge but each dish was served on its own styrofoam plate, kinda unfortunate.

I definitely recommend it.

the funny thing that is pretty common in most of the UK, especially in Glasgow area, kebabs and pizzas. i vividly remember the tandoori chicken pizza after a night of debauchery in some local pubs.

I stopped by last night just to pick up a menu and it was UNGODLY hot in there. They didn't really seem all that ready to be doing business quite yet -- there were some power tools lying around and stuff out of place -- although they were serving. I just grabbed a menu and left so I didn't find out anything more. I hope they're planning on getting AC soon -- it's not at all pleasant for anyone who has to go in there, and I imagine it's downright unhealthy for their poor workers, who are dealing with hot stoves and such.

I work on 52nd between 8th and 9th in midtown, and there's a tiny Indian restaurant between the new condo tower and the post office on that block that offers the transcultural pizzas on its menu. It's owned by the same people that own a ridiculously overpriced Mexican restaurant and Italian restaurant nearby. Never got the pizzas, but tandoori is definitely an option. They also offer Mexican pizzas.
