Car stolen welcome to the neighborhood
nubnu
My car was no where to be found yesterday morning and according to the NYC Dept of Finance hotline it had not been towed (there was no reason for it to be towed). Filed a police report that the car has been stolen. It was on 6th Ave just after Berkley. Goodbye car...

. sorry that happen. lets hope its not used in any crimes. -
smallbiz475Sorry to hear of your woes.
It may be a long shot, but have you checked with the local Police Precinct to make sure that it was not moved due to a movie/television filming?
Typically, the city will 'move' your car to another parking spot when a street needs to be cleared for filming. The local police precinct should have a list of of the license plates of moved cars.
Good luck. -
8thandprezThere were filming a tv show called "Damages" in the neighborhood today. I woke up to the towing (aka moving) of all the cars parked on 8th ave around Union - Carroll. Not sure if it extended elsewhere in the neighborhood though. -

Sorry to hear you may have lost your car. Brooklyn has other things to offer than just this, I assure you ...
Typically, and historically, car thieves in the Slope target specific cars that can be quickly dismembered and sold for parts. (Toyota and honda sedans, suvs) They take a lot of these cars right off the street via towing ... so what looks like a legal towing of parked cars is actually the grand larceny disguised in the open.
I have avoided car breakins by always having a car or a truck that said "yeh, what are you looking at! I'm worth basically nothing. Take me if you want, more hassle for you ..." Its a blessing not, a curse, as-#Q$!
Of course, you can always put an alarm, dis-engage the battery, put a trip switch on the power, etc ... and of course, the solid solution, a parking garage.
For home owners, having good lighting on a block is essential to low car breakins.

doldrumsa lot of times the cars that are towed are left in Prospect Park near the 15th st entrance. There is a lot there that the nypd tows when you are parked in area that a filming is taking place. Believe me, I know from expereince. -
