creative ways to JFK from PH.

has anyone taken the 3 train to New Lots and then the B15 to JFK? could it really be that easy? i don't want to get in another fight on the A/C line.

    I am sold on the LIRR from Nostrand or Atlantic Avenue to Jamaica, and then hop on the Air Tran. Only 10, 15 minutes to Jamaica, then a quick ride on the shuttle. Downside: $5 for LIRR, $5 for shuttle. But so quick and painless. Much better than chugging half out to the Rockaways on the A.

    I've taken this route several times, and second the recommendation. And $10 is way less than any cab ride would be.

    I have never taken the LIRR, where is the Nostrand LIRR stop? Cross streats?

    I took the B15 from Crown Heights once -- I think I took the B45 and switched to the 15 at Buffalo Ave.

    (Uh, the bus map says that's Ocean Hill, not Crown Heights -- I guess I believe it.)

    It was slow, but very interesting.

    Says it's 40 minutes from there to JFK.

    (Trips123.com says it's only 35 minutes from GAP to JFK using the 3 train & B15 (depending on the time of day))

    Newark: 2/3 to Penn, NJ Transit to airport (not sure if you can do this from lower manhattan somewhere)

    LaGuardia: 2/3 to 125th street, m60 (? - can't remember but it runs on 125th street over the triboro bridge) to LaGuardia.

    is it more chill than the A/C line? seems like there would be less chance of getting spit on and fewer men with their hands down their pants than on the A/C.. but who knows, anyone?!

    last time i took a cab home from JFK the guy got all creepy on me... he told me he wanted to keep me forever and never drop me off.

    oh, did you have to take the airtrain for an extra $5? the map makes it seem like the B15 drops you right off at your terminal.

    It was pretty chill. It was during the day, and the bus was about half full of people who seemed like they worked at the airport.

    I did have to wait for 10 minutes or so at Buffalo Ave. for the connecting bus, which is an unfamiliar neighborhood for me. But I didn't get any bad vibes.

    Just had to pay the regular $2 bus fare. It does drop you off at the terminals, but around the corner so that people flying in don't find the bus stops instead of paying the 5 bucks for the Airtrain.

    No. 2/3 to Nevins. Switch to the 4. Take 4 to Fulton Street. Walk across Church to the WTC. Take the NWK PATH to Penn Station Newark. Hop any southbound NJT to EWR. ($7.50) NJT Bus 62 (Perth Amboy) is genius as well.

    You could also take the 2/3 to Fulton St but switching to the 4 knocks 10 minutes out of the trip and the transfer from the 2/3 to the WTC is a LONG WALK.

    You can also take the 2/3 to Park Place, which connects to the WTC PATH station via a tunnel.

    that's a lot of switching, though. 2/3 to penn is just one switch. 2/3 to 4/5 to path to njpenn to ewr???

    newark is easy, ride the subway penn station and then take the NJTransitto the newark airport (it's just 1 or 2 stops. fast & it's cheap, too!

    yeah, that's what I originally said. if there were a direct connection from the 2/3 in downtown (similar to that at penn) to njtransit that stops at ewr, I'd think it were a good idea to use the WTC station. but it doesn't seem that way, and I'm straight up lazy.

    You are correct that NJT trains do not stop anywhere in Manhattan other than Penn. There MIGHT be timetable anomalies that make it more efficient at certain times to go to Newark Penn via PATH and then bus or train it vs. the more direct NY Penn to EWR approach (I've sat in the EWR train station for 45 minutes before), but I'm guessing they are few and far between.

    That tunnel is a long walk. The switch at Nevins saves lots of time. Seriously. The only problem with all of this is that it requires that the MTA have its shit together. You know the PATH will be there with doors open beckoning you to the arms of a panhandler at Newark Penn Station. The problem with the all the way to Penn Station New York on the 2/3 is that the fucker runs local until Chambers St and, recently especially, will burn you by running local up 7th Ave too. One of the nice things about going into Newark is there is an Airport bound train every 14-18 minutes from there.

    Now you know what I mean. Seriously, you will pay more, have more trouble making the connection and it will take 45 minutes to 1 hour longer if you go to NYP as opposed to NWK to go to EWR. QED.
