any good yoga classes in the area for beginners? I'm too intimidated to try crunch or that intense-looking bodytonics place.

I love it there. very nieghborhood-ish , not hardcore or fancy-pants.
    give it a try.

does shambhala yoga have any classes that don't meet during working hours? the gf liked it there, too, but hasn't gone back because the evenings and weekends seemed to be all dance.

yeah, everyone is recomending shambhala, but their classes dont start until 9 am and are over by 7pm... not quite the working woman's yoga schedule.

Thanks OP...you got me curious enough to try out my first yoga class this weekend- went to Shambhala's beginners community class and would recommend it. Good mix of people and skill... got over my yoga Catch-22: "I don't know anything about yoga so it keeps me from trying a class so I never learn anything about yoga..."
Especially liked the no shame assurances of using props.
