Self defense classes?

Can anyone tell me if there is anywhere in the area to take a good self-defense class/workshop? I'd prefer something geared towards women's self-defense and don't want to just take a generic martial arts course.

Thanks!

    I haven't found the 'best' class, but I think any women's self-defense class (just google it) run by women for women is going to show you the same thing:

    1. a few basic, physical responsive moves and (more importantly);
    2. how to get out of a situation without it becoming a fight.

    I took one years ago - just tried googling and didn't track it down - that was perfect for that. I know a handful of fast, smart things I can do, like kick and punch, and also run, scream, use forceful tones, etc.

    Good luck!

    excellent!

    they do six week self-defense classes for women, special classes for teens, children
    I think they have a smart approach -- no guy in a padded suit to kick, just realistic discussion of situations and what you can do to protect yourself, along with training.

    You might like Ving Tsun (pronounced wing chun) training. Its a modernized style of kung fu which focuses on utilizing body structure rather than physical strength. The story goes that it was actually invented by a woman. The system aims at reinforcing an individuals ability to defend themselves rather than working towards belts or competitions.

    In williamsburg:
