Street Garbage Cans

I've just move to the nabe - right around Classon & Greene, and I'm wondering after walking around a couple of blocks why i don't see any street trash cans on the corners? And, if anyone has tried asking for more street cans around? The closest one I've seen on greene avenue from classon, is all the way on the washington ave... what's up with that?

Someone at work had said to me, that to get street trash cans, there must be businesses around (that is, if its just a purely residential street like 6th avenue in park slope) you probably won't see them.

Don't know if there is truth to that.... thoughts and observations from others?

Skooter it's a long long story, and if I tell you the story "Da Man" is going to lock this thread, but do what I do on issues of tree cuttings, streetlights, and garbage cans call 311 and they will start the process. 8)

Guru, if you have an issue with how the boards are moderated, you can post about it on the "Ask Brooklynian" board, or you can register and PM an admin. If you keep changing the topic of every thread to your issues with these boards, you're going to find your IP blocked.

Yup, I'll definitely be calling 311 but, didn't know if anyone esle had tried before too, and if its only a problem around greene avenue...
I felt a little silly having to carry my little bit of trash all the way home before I could dispose of it. :)

Carnivore, I answered the question and Skooter got it. Why are you picking on me? I promised to play nice.

Go to the dept of Sanitation website and you can request them there, mention which corner of the intersection and give them a reason "high traffic volume, bodega nearby, school nearby etc..." before you know it they'll put one there. It worked for my corner in Bed-stuy

I'll try it since it's been months and I can't get them on Tompkins.
