Park Slope- Judgmental? You be the judge.

So a local writer is authoring a blog for Newsweek where she will attempt to be a "Freegan" for a month. It looks like it should be interesting.

However, I take a bit of exception to this sentence:

"But, I don't want Al Gore, Leonardo DiCaprio or any of the snotty people in my very green and very self-righteous neighborhood (if you Google “Park Slope, Brooklyn” and “judgmental,” you'll get more than 40,000 hits) to tell me that's it's going to be easy."

Sure, this board is evidence that folks in our neighborhood are firm in their convictions, but overall, we all get along okay. Is it fair to characterize us as snotty? Granted, there are a few among us that qualify for that name, but overall I think it's fairly harmonious here and the differences are respected.

So is our reputation well earned, fellow Brooklynites? Here's a link to the article.

btw, when I Googled "Park Slope" and "Judgmental", I only got 39,200 hits . Interestingly enough, when I Googled "Park Slope" and "Judgemental", I got almost 19,000. So call us poor spellers, but don't call us snotty.

Well, there you go. And I don't judge you for that.

But since when does a whole nabe have that kind of actual identity? Park Slope is not that unified in thought...

Is the Freegan blogger stocking up on designer boots before the project?
Or is that just the zero-footprint folks?

The article has been written/blogged many times; it seems to sell papers/attract hits. I think the idea of snobby PS still has enough traction that we won't stop hearing about this until a sitcom starring a lesser Friends character or somesuch type is set in the Slope.

Maybe said characters move into the Huxtable mansion -- ooh, gentrification can be funny!

FWIW the Slope is definitely a peanut-butter-goodness blend of snobbery (some noble, some out jealousy) and tolerance (some noble, some out of fear/guilt). The combo may be a bit schitzo, but it beats apathy and indifference.
