Subject: Calling all transit nerds re: 7th Ave. subway station
So, what's the deal with the extra stairways that lead to nowhere? Anyone know what the station looked like before those were sealed off?I'll bet one of those doors leads right to back room of Little Miss Muffin.

pnlopThat's a good question. The only thing I found when googling was that they are closed exits, but nothing more than that. I always imagined that they might lead to secret offices, or something related. -
armchair_warriorit leads to a sekert booze and drug and ho house. -
pnlopHere's what I found. I wasn't able to copy and paste it but check out the link page 4.

heights249I think we actually discussed this a long time ago, but I don't remember what was determined - I think maybe that it was just storage space? but that the stairs used to be exits? I think I'm going with the backdoor to Lil' Miss Muffin theory though :thumright: -

peanutbuttercupWhat's up with the mystery closed off staircase on the 7th avenue Q station? -

veggiequeenoops sorry... i replied to the wrong post! -
yesnomaybeThey lead to a long-closed exit at roughly Flatbush and Sterling. From the lobby level, note the closed-off corridors on either side... the entire southern half of the lobby of the station is blocked off. A while back I found a link to an MTA study (from about 5 years ago) listing what closed station areas should potentially be reopened; this one was listed, but obviously they never acted on the study.
Apparently the MTA is using all that space for "storage".
I really wish they would reopen it, since it would be more convenient, and also maybe help with the god-awful ventilation in that station during the summer... -
peanutbuttercupWow thanks! -
homeownerMod Note: I merged these two threads. Feel free to carry on...
