Receiving a deposit
iluvbrooklyn
I moved out at the beginning of the month and was just curious as to how long my landlord had to return my deposit to me. The law states that in NY the landlord has a "reasonable" amount of time to do so. What does this mean? How long have other people waited?

iluvbrooklynthanks - I guess it seems excessive to wait 2 whole months to get my deposit back. -
pseudomeI think 2 months is too long. I would press the issue, particularly accusing the landlord of co-mingling and unlawful withholding. Be sure to tell him/her that the reward in small claims court for unlawful withholding is 3 TIMES the security deposit.
