Hey,

New to the area and so far I love it. Just wanted to get some opinions on hospitals in the area. I've got two kids (1 and 6) and a wife and we're just wondering what the general feeling about hosptials in the neighborhood are.

So far I've heard a little about New York Methodist and Maimonides.

What do you guys think?

Good stories/bad?

What's good for kids, womens and just general practice?

How are the emergency rooms?

Thanks.

i have had personal experience with the women's health surgical team, gastroenterologic team, and emergency cardiac unit at Methodist -- i found all experiences to be excellent. i know members here may chime in about bad experiences with the general emergency room, but the cardiac unit was great. all of my doctors save one are associated with Methodist and i've been happy with them all. with that said, i can only speak from experience re: adult medicine and know nothing about the pediatric unit.

welcome to the neighborhood, and bravo for being proactive about your healthcare. i regards to finding an internist and a gynecologist, do a search in the PS board because i know there has been some extensive threads on both topics.

yeah, i'm one of the ones with another opinion...

i've had several crappy experiences at methodist, and i'd have to be bleeding copiously from my head and not have enough time to get to another hospital for me to go there.

LICH is ok, better than methodist. i'd go with maimonedes over all of them.

but if i have a choice, i'm into the city at beth israel or NYU

whatever you do, stay far away from kings county hospital. i was hit by a car earlier this summer and was rushed there by ambulance. by far teh worst experience i've ever had at a hospital. needless to say i went to valley hospital in new jersey the next day (i'm originally from nj so my mom took me as i wasn't mobile) and they performed all the proper tests that kings missed. they couldn't believe what i told them about the place but said it's got a bad reputation.

Kings County is AWFUL. I had good experiences at Methodist but most of the time I go to LICH, as that's where my doctors have privileges. Over time, LICH has gotten to be pretty good.

Had bad experiences with all of them. Maimonides is the WORST...a neighbor's cancer went unnoticed and untreated which ultimately lead to his death. Elder care there is sub par, to say the least.

LICH and Methodist are about on par for the ER. Many a year ago I had an operation a Methodist. Not bad, though not good depending n what you go there for.

There's also Lutheran Medical Center in Sunset Park. Great ER, though longterm stay was iffy. Father in law went in with chest pains over the summer. ER wonderful, but getting him a bed and then Dr's to see and release him was another story.

Sorry to not have a rave reports about the hospitals in the area. :(

    Thanks for the tips.
The wife is wondering about "women's services". Anybody had any good or bad experiences in that area?

as i mentioned in my earlier post, do a search on the board. you'll find a lot of information/opinions on both gynecologists and internists. there has already been extensive conversation on both.

I beg to differ on that one. LICH has been nothing but a nightmare, including one very early sunday morning emergency room visit with a child bleeding from the head, and empty emergency room, and a 45 minute wait for someone to come and triage. It was then another 5 hour wait for 16 stitches. For a bleeding toddler.

    Tip of the iceberg.

Stay away from LICH. and FWIW, it is beind downsized, the properties being sol off, and will eventually be closed.

    My sentiments also.

Given my experiences in the ER at both Methodist and LICH, I'm opting for WebMD, some duct tape and a bottle of Cutty Sark next time I crash a bike.

Well I have had nothing but positive experiences at Methodist and LICH. MEthodist has 2 good gynecologists, one male and one female who share an office on 7th Ave off 6 st. Dr Fuchs and Dr Ayoub , both excellent with great bedside manners and compassion.

arlette et alia who love dr. fuchs.

what i find really interesting is that people either love them or really hate them. no in between.

i will only says this (not directed at you...), but i'm snarkily surprised that you (the general "you") are still healthy and well.

this, of course, is just my opinion, based on my experiences. but she screwed me so bad that i had to make an appointment with my former gyn in jersey to take care of what it took her THREE weeks to even call me back about.
