Bed Stuy or Clinton Hill

Hello Everyone:

I recently moved to NY and am in search of an apartment in Brooklyn. I found a place that I am really interested in but I think I may be wrong about it. The super claims its in Clinton Hill but I think its Bed Stuy. Furthermore, I think the price may be off depending where its located. I'm not from here so I have no clue.

Its located on Monroe St., between Classon and Franklin. Now I keep hearing that the border is Classon, Franklin, or Bedford. What is really the border? And is $1,100 for a one bedroom with all utilities included (including phone, cable and internet) a good deal?

According to NYC.gov, which officially delinieates neighborhoods based on Census data ( and other sources ) Classon IS the border. While many people and realtors are trying to push it further east, and the area just on the border in some parts still 'feels like' Clinton Hill, technically its Bed Stuy as of current.

Classon is the border. But does it matter? If you like the apartment, and it sounds like an incredible deal.... then why does it matter which side of Classon it is on?

Great help! Just wanted to be informed before I make that next step. Honestly it doesn't matter much which side of classon its on as long as its safe! I understand that you have to be vigilant where ever you are, but at the same time I want to make sure I make informed decisions.

    Thanks everyone

The name of a neighborhood or its boundary does not automatically confer safety!

From this board, it looks as if there is more crime in Clinton Hill than Bed Stuy...

What I meant to say was, it is as arbitrary to use a neighborhood name like "Bed Stuy" or "Clinton Hill" and what the "official border" of each to assess safety as it is to use a message board that happens to be running a hot post about the crime in FG and CH right now.

I just moved to Bed-Stuy. I had started my search in "Clinton Hill" only to find that nowadays so many places listed as "Clinton Hill" on Craigslist were technically Bed-Stuy. So I widened the search to "Bed-Stuy" because at least I'd have more apartments to choose from! What matters most is that you like the area, feel safe, get a nice place, etc. Does it really matter what neighborhood you technically live in?

And besides, there's blocks in Clinton Hill that I don't feel safe on so you really can't judge safety from the name of the neighborhood. At least I can't.

It is something I call the "90210 Syndrome" after the old TV show. My years in the business have seen people not wanting to be west or north of this in Ft G, or south of that in Pk Sl, or east of this in CH. All those areas have appreciated and are now very valuable. You get a good deal you take it and when it is your time...
