In this case it made sense. Overall though this place is over-moderated.

How exactly are we "over-moderated"? Do you have any specific examples of something the mods have addressed that you disagree with? Chances are there's a logical explanation, which we'd be happy to provide if we know what you're complaining about.

Moderators are far too visible on this site. So many posts are moved, deleted, shifted. Conversations aren't allowed to occur organically. PMs are sent telling posters not to post certain things. Controversial posts are deleted or used as the source of a reprimand.

That's over-moderated in a nutshell. Hey, that's the way it is around here, it's fine. But it's over-moderated. At least to me.

Having been on plenty of unmoderated boards and heavy handed moderated boards, I would say that I like the moderation here, on balance. I appreciate keeping things in their place, and I appreciate keeping trolls down to a minimum. You will not find opposing viewpoints moderated, other than when they are not expressed in skillful ways. I've had to be reminded a few times myself.

I'd love specific examples. like apollonia666 said, there is generally a logical explanation as to what we're doing. and there are tons of times when we've been begged by users to take action on a matter that, under the rules, is not actionable so we have to just let it go.

    hear hear!

On balance, I find the level of moderation here to be just about right.

This is not the internet we want to be, so we say Be Nice or Leave. There really are a million other places to be a snot online, but trolls and other peeps looking for a place to vent spleen seem to prefer talking to non-trolls, right?
