Anyone get window guards installed by someone they liked? I'm just looking for some basic iron bars to keep people out, nothing fancypants.

Thanks!

All right, I'm gonna respond to my own post with who I used, in case anyone's looking in the future... went with these guys on a neighbor's recommendation. They were fast and the gates are solid.

What were the prices like? Did you get FDNY approved gates? Decorative? What size windows?

Windows are 30 by... 70-ish? Will check later.

One was a FDNY approved gate, the other was not. I didn't bother with decorative; I'm not big on the frou-frou. It was just over $600 for both including tax. They're the solid-bar type, not the accordion type.

    ETA: Yup, 30" by 70".

    Hey, Lydia,

Glad to hear that you have bars up now. Did they install them on the inside or outside?

Inside. It's a couple less places for the cats to sit, but whaddayagonnado...

Just asking because we installed window guards but I was wondering if there was a way to install bars on the outside. I guess there is, but it's probably pretty expensive.

I have trouble imagining there being enough room on a window sill for either of the boys.

With the warm weather coming, and this post about a fire escape break-in
thought one of the window guard threads was worth reviving...

So you registered for the site today, you live in Bay Ridge, but just happened to be looking at old threads on the Prospect Heights board and the first thing that you comment on is a thread about window gates in Prospect Heights from 2 years ago?

Sounds like a shill to me.

    Yep, tracked and confirmed.

Why do some businesses think potential customers are this stupid...

All he had to do was either:

    1) respond to an existing thread here identifying himself and his company, offering he'd be glad to help (not pretending to be a customer with a rave-review)

    and/or

    2) introduce himself and post his company's services in the CLASSIFIEDS (and not create a thread somewhere else)

But I guess with these online message boards, it's more tempting to deceive potential customers than to be straight-forward with them.

    Subject: actual suggestions?

Besides Igor's and the shill, does anyone have any other recommendations? I was actually just about to post a question on this topic and then saw this... I need someone to take out my current old and rotted one and install a new window security gate that is FDNY approved.

    Thanks for any recommendations!
