Update: A commenter steered us toward a rendering and description on architect Gene Kaufman's website that sounds about right:

This new corner residential condominium building includes ground floor retail, medical offices and parking. Adjacency to a subway station and the irregular lot complicated the design and approval process. The 8-story steel-framed building contains 80,000 square feet and 61 apartments. A metal panel facade encircled by curved metal balconies gives a polished look to the first new building in the neighborhood in many years.

I don't think so, I think Brownstoner might be off. Or the rendering is. Or whatever. Dunno. Nice to see it still coming up, though.

There are sooooo many new building projects coming in this area, it is just staggering. Those folks who obsess over where Crown Heights ends and Prospect Heights begins are going to be in for a real jolt when this ton of new development starts being more visible. Just one site in particular: 788 Sterling at Rogers Avenue will have 82 new apartments, versus the paltry 60 proposed for EPW & Franklin. Then there's the big building going up on Bedford Ave and Bergen St - 40 apartments, and three buildings going up on Prospect Place and Rogers - 24 apartments. And there a literally a dozen smaller projects slated for areas east of Franklin.

Let's talk Prospect Heights/Crown Heights a year from now!

So how do you guys feel about these massive developments and how they change the character of the neighborhood?

I don't have an opinion here because I don't have enough information and I haven't lived here long enough.

I'm interested in what you think.

I know gentrification can be a dirty word for some, but I think the development is good for the neighborhood because it will bring more amenities- like sit-down restaurants and hopefully better schools over time. I wish they could have saved the building that stood before (it was run down but had good bones) and just added on top but oh well.

I did a little research and came up with this rendering of what the building might look like.

Funny, as my roommate and I were walking back from the supermarket this afternoon we passed by this lot and I joked that they were building a condo. Lo and behold...

Much better. They had a stop work order rescinded this past week. They are there working. Anyone know about the supposed Fisher renovations?

i was at Fischer's last week and i overheard the owner (?) saying that they will renovate the store south of Eastern Parkway first because it's not making as much/enough money, and then they will do the one on Franklin/Lincoln. He said that he was "dying" to renovate the space on Lincoln and that he wanted to do a lot of organic/higher end products.

Nice find Guest. He still has the old one up on his website. Among other things, the new one appears to actually match the dimensions of the lot, haha.

    from Everyblock:
On April 8, 2008, a building permit application at 341 Eastern Parkway, Brooklyn, was approved by DOB exam. The next step is for the applicant to submit the approved plans to the permit clerk with PW-2 and PW-3 forms and a check for $35.

What is this a joke? It awful. Service garage on Eastern Parkway? Way to show respect to one of the finest avenues in the city.

& the big pieces of mahogany like what the rendering has framing the terraces? One piece looks to be about 45 feet long, 5 feet wide, and 1 foot thick. Good luck getting wood that big, player.

heh. good catch on the wood, although my money is on crappy rendering skills.

It's actually concrete that's going to be painted in a faux-wood finish.

A shopkeeper who owned a variety store at the corner of Eastern Parkway and Franklin Avenue for 21 years, Eli Mazon, is now developing the building into an eight floor, 62-unit rental building. The project, which is set for completion in the spring 2010, will include studios, and one and two bedrooms, in addition to commercial office space. While the rents have not yet been finalized, the development, which will also boast a garage, gym, and doorman, will range from $2,000 a month to $3,500 a month.
That's right, $2k for a studio on Eastern and Franklin...

We've made it to the big leagues now. Oh and scrolling up and down on that picture of the building is really trippy.
